The previous handwritten birth registration form can no longer be applied for. You must visit your Union Parishad or complete the birth registration form online to apply for a new birth registration.

Birth Registration Act Bangladesh

Bangladeshi law governs birth registration, which is governed by the Birth Registration Act No 29 of 2004.

Under this, a person’s name, gender, date and place of birth, parent’s name, nationality, and permanent address must be entered in the register or entered into the computer by the registrar as per the rules prescribed by the government.

New Birth Registration Rules

According to the Bangladesh Government Birth and Death Registration Act 2004, birth registration is mandatory within 45 days of birth.

Even if the citizens cannot produce the birth registration certificate within 45 days due to some difficulty, the government has made provision for birth registration within 5 years of the child’s birth for the convenience of the people.

Otherwise, birth registration beyond 5 years requires many additional documents/paperwork and adds additional hassles and registration fees.

The rules for applying for new birth registration are much more accessible now. Bangladeshi citizens can apply for birth registration corrections and birth registration online at home.

The government has launched a website for online birth registration under digital services for special assistance to the people.

What does it take to register a new birth?

You must also know what it takes to apply for a new birth registration.

Because the rules for applying for new birth registration for children differ from those for applying for adults.

If the child is between 0 and 45 days of age:
Child’s EPI or Immunization Card.
Bengali and English copies of the father and mother’s digital or online birth registration.
Photocopy of the national identity card of father and mother.
Householding number and current year holding tax receipt.
The mobile number of the applicant’s parent/guardian is needed.

If the child is 46 to 5 years old:
EPI or Immunization Card / Certificate of Health Worker with signature and seal.
Bengali and English copy of online birth registration of father and mother.
Photocopy of the national identity card of father and mother.
Certificate of Headmaster of the school with signature and seal where applicable.
Householding number and current year holding tax receipt.
The mobile number of the applicant’s parent/guardian is needed.
One copy of a color passport size photograph at the time of submission of the new birth registration application form.

For children or persons above 5 years:
Certificate by a doctor for proof of age MBBS or above degree recognized by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
Completion of Govt Primary Education and Board of Education Junior School or Secondary School Certificate.
A Bengali and English copy of the father and mother’s online birth registration, a copy of their national identity card, or an updated tax payment certificate against the domicile declared by the father/mother/grandfather/grandmother as their permanent address are required for proof of place of birth or permanent address.
Land or house purchase deed, rent, and tax payment receipt. Or if the permanent address disappears due to river erosion or other reasons.

Online Birth Registration Application Form Filling

One is to create the child’s birth registration by submitting your documents to your nearest Union Parishad city corporation or Upazila office.

Also, if you are thinking of creating your baby’s birth registration at home, there is an online method.

In this method, it is essential to scan your documents and provide documents with proofs on the official website provided by the Bangladesh government.

Also, https://bdris.gov.bd/ has opened an option for those who want to apply for birth registration for their child from outside the country.

Clicking on the link will take you to this page, and the following rules are written on this page:

• For the registrar’s office, you must follow the steps of your place of birth or permanent address to select the division, district, etc., up to the ward.
• After filling out the online birth registration application form, first in Bengali and later in English, make the necessary edits and click the save button.
• By clicking on the save button, the application form will be transferred to the concerned registrar office, the applicant will not have any opportunity to make any corrections.
• Then, in the next step, click on the print button, and you will receive a printed copy of the application form.

For the certificate, collect the certificates mentioned in the application form within 15 days and contact the registrar’s office along with attested copies of the required certificates in applicable cases.

If you are applying for new birth registration online, select the address of the office from which you want to collect the birth registration certificate.

Birth registration contact and address

After knowing the rules for applying for new birth registration, learn how to contact and provide the place of birth address of the person under registration.

You must fill in the registered person’s contact address, name, and contact form. For example:

1	Select the Union Parishad, Municipality, or City Corporation from which you want to register the birth.
2	If there are two parts to the name, write the 1st part in the box of the first part and the 2nd part in the last part of the name. Like “mine” or “Faizul Karim.” In the first part, the word “Faizul” and in the second part, the word “Karim” should be written.
3	If the name has three parts, write the 1st two parts in the first part of the name and write the last part in the box of the previous part of the name.
4	If the name is one word, i.e., the name part is 1, then the first part will be empty. Enter the last part of the name only.

In the same way, fill in the registered person’s name in English. Also, correctly fill in other details and the birthplace address, and finally, click on the next button on the right.

Birth Registration father and mother information

Now, the child under registration has to provide his parents’ digital birth registration identity card number for identification.

If you enter your parents’ Digital Birth Registration number here, their names will automatically appear, and you cannot change them. The parents’ birth registration must be online from the beginning.

No birth registration can be applied for the child if the birth registration of the child’s parents is not digitized. In this case, parents must first create a digital birth registration.

However, if the person under registration was born in 2000 or earlier, the parents’ name and birth registration number can be entered. If the information is filled correctly, click on the next button.

Birth Registration Permanent and Current Address

• For an online birth registration certificate, the applicant must provide their current and permanent address.
• From here, click on the None button. Then, you will get the option to give an address.
• If the place of birth and permanent address are the same (marked in red box), tick the check box.
• If the permanent and current addresses are the same (marked in red), tick the check box.

Otherwise, write the new address and where you must write village, house and road number. Then click on the next button.

Birth Registration Applicant Information

The person who is applying for this birth registration, must provide the information.

Usually, the person responsible for registering a child’s birth is a parent, grandparent, maternal grandparent, or legal guardian. They are the ones who apply for the child’s new birth registration.

You can also apply for your birth registration yourself. If self-applying, self-select. Or select Father, Mother, Grandfather, Grandmother, etc. If everything is OK, click the following button on the right and complete the application.

Birth Registration Application Form Download

After successfully filling out the application form for new birth registration, you will get the option to download or print the birth registration application.

New birth registration applications should be printed and submitted to the concerned Union Parishad/ Municipal or City Corporation office.

While printing the application, ensure the Headers and Footers information is visible in the print. This part will contain your application ID. However, the application ID for new birth registration is missing.

Since your Birth Registration Certificate application cannot be traced without an Application ID, the Birth Registration Certificate application print copy must contain the Application ID section.

While printing the birth registration application, click on More Settings from the Print Option. If the Headers and Footers option is not ticked, tick it and print it.

Whenever you apply for a birth certificate, you must submit the required documents and a copy of the application.

How much is the birth registration fee?

Birth registration can be applied for free from 0 to 45 days of child age.

The late registration fee from 46 days to 5 years is 25 Taka domestically and $1 abroad. After 5 years, the cost is 50 Taka in the country and 1 dollar abroad. The late fee for correcting the date of birth is 100 Taka domestically and $2 abroad.

The application fee for correcting other information and supplying duplicate certificates in English and Bengali languages ​​is 50 Taka domestically and $1 abroad.

• Children aged 0 to 45 days are free
• Forty-six days to 5 years, 25 Taka
• If the age is more than 5 years, 50 taka
